1. Laser Combat

Do you remember Laser Quest? Do you remember that point were it clicked that all it is running round with toy guns pretending to shoot people? Maybe you have not had this enlightenment yet. I decided that it was more or less for people who a) Play too many first person shooters and b) Have a war complex.

I would have been perfectly happy avoiding running round with plastic toys while someone pretends their a general shouting tactics at you, however on a recent trip to Centre Parcs I was out numbered by my friends as they could not see my logic in my dislike for laser shooting - besides this is not your standard laser quest, but laser quest in the woods! So I felt compeled to do it and not let the side down.

Upon taking part in the activity I found that the people doing it were mostly like I imagined they would be as they talked about the tactics they use in Medal of Honor while a military dad discussed complexly with his son reasoning why one part of the military was better than the others (he also told him to take his shoes off at the end so it would be difficult for shooters to locate his hiding place).

We had four rounds one team against the other, teams of two, a hunt down the general round and a free for all. If it was a really war I would be dead, especially during the free for all were I could not find suitable cover so sprinted round trying to Rambo people. This tactic soon failed and I was the first to 'die'. The winner was a guy who spent most the time hiding in a corner letting everyone take each other out, so he had no fun at all.

Overall the benefit of firing fake guns at each other outside did not add anything, I kept tripping over mounds it was as bad as Laser Quest, actually it was worse because it cost more and I had to clean my clothes when finished. To finish off the bitter disappoint one of my friends said "Oh that was a bit rubbish, really your only pretending to shoot each other" having obviously not listened to a word I had said earlier. I will leave this for the gamers in future I think.
